Innovation Isn’t an Idea Problem

When most of the organization try to enhance their organizational innovation. They always seem to initiate the same assumption we need more ideas they would start feeling the need to think so, more out of the box ideas.

They try to find new ideas that can later be turned into innovative and creative products for the success of your organization. But in some organizations, the innovation is not carried out not due to a lack of innovative ideas bit due to the lack of ability to notice new ideas.

The main problem is not about the lack of innovative ideas but rather it is due to lack of recognition of new ideas.

Now let us consider some well-known examples from history the kodak’s research laboratory Undertale the invention of the first digital camera in the year 1975 but did not pursue it. Rather they do not pay any attention to it. Sony developed a different photography application from undermatch them. Xerox developed the first personal computer but it did not invest much in upgrading its technology and gave the chance to Steve Jobs and Apple rot take over this great opportunity. 13 submission regarding the new firing method from William S were rejected by the US navy.

These examples demonstrate how smart people and companies committed big mistakes by neglecting the great opportunities which knocked on their door and later on other companies took advantage of these opportunities. It also reflects a bias behavior which is being faced by all of us.

To Study this there was conducted a test in which two teams were formed and put under different conditions. The researchers created some amount of uncertainty in one group by telling them that they will get an additional amount t of payments based on a random lottery of payments. Two tests were conducted on the participants one was related to checking their creativity and innovation. They ere asked to design pairings of two words such as novel, inventive, original). The second test was done to check the feelings of the participants towards new and creative ideas. The rating scale was from 1 to 7.

The stud revealed that a negative bias is present against the creative due to the presence of uncertainty situations. This inflexibility towards creativity is due to the unawareness of the companies in recognizing new and innovative ideas for the business. There are many ways of solving this issue the major way is by implementing ways rot innovate technology and by explaining to them the importance of innovation.
